Anticipating the release of debut EP Remember To Have Fun - due 8th May - Manchester’s Adam Hopper & The Wimps share second EP teaser - the bruisingly bittersweet ‘It’s What Your Friends Don’t Say That Hurt You The Most’ - out today (24th April).
Infused with a jangle-pop sensibility, an affable heart-on-sleeve confessionalism, and an ever-sunny disposition that lands somewhere between the anti-folk of The Moldy Peaches and beaming narratives of The Beautiful South, this latest cut continues to reflect the key themes explored across the upcoming EP, namely, the recovery of childhood innocence, and a veneration of the benign, yet invaluable interactions that shape our everyday lives.
Heralded next month with a series of co-headline tour dates with British Birds, and an intimate homecoming show at The Castle Hotel, it follows a sell-out debut headline at Low Four Studios last year, and a plethora of support slots for the likes of Chris Cohen, Ethan P. Flynn, Jesca Hoop and The Golden Dregs
It also follows the rollicking 60s-garage-inspired blasts of lead single ‘My Friend Al’, which earned the band airplay on BBC Radio 6Music (Amy Lamé), BBC Introducing (Emily Pilbeam) and Radio X (John Kennedy), to add to a wealth or press backing which includes The Line of Best Fit, Far Out, Rough Trade, Clunk, The New Age Magazine, Blogotheque, Hard of Hearing and The Indie Scene.
Offering more on the new single, Adam says, simply: “This song is kind of autobiographical – I can be really bad at keeping in touch, with both friends and family. This is kind of a kick up my own arse to make a better effort.”
